Who Judges the Sites

The Design Gene is run by Jessica Miller, founder and lead designer at Corvus Design Studio. Jessica has been a professional web designer and developer for over 10 years. She has won several awards and kudos for her work, and is an avid proponent of web standards. Jessica’s personal style and interest encompasses every design style, from minimal to grunge, cartoon to corporate and anything else you could think of. What Makes The Design Gene Different?

As you probably know, there are a ton of CSS and Flash showcase websites out there. With the increasing availability of “showcase” WordPress themes, CSS and Flash galleries are popping up left and right. Just a few years ago there were only a handful; The Best Designs, CSS Vault, FWA, etc…. So, you’re probably wondering what makes The Design Gene different from any other design showcase. I think there are a few defining characteristics that set The Design Gene apart from the rest.

One of the biggest differences is that The Design Gene is updated frequently. I try to add at least a few new entries a day. Sometimes I skip a day, and other days I’ll add more than a few.

Another difference is that The Design Gene includes Flash, CSS, and Blog websites. Being a web designer myself, I just love great design, regardless of the development media. Although blogs technically are CSS websites (usually), I feel their speciality deserves its own category. Since the purpose of The Design Gene is to provide inspiration to other designers, I think sometimes it will come in handy to be able to narrow down just the blogs.

I can appreciate great design in any form and style, and use an objective eye to judge site entries. The sites added to The Design Gene are chosen for their aesthetics, as well as their functionality and purpose. Please feel free to submit your work to The Design Gene, via our Add Form.
